The upcoming US House of Representatives vacancy for the role of Speaker has potential to be filled by Israel.
The upcoming US House of Representatives vacancy for the role of Speaker has potential to be filled by Israel. Democratic representative Israel is receiving growing support from both sides of the aisle to fill the role and the endorsement of the Democratic Caucus has already been gained. If Israel is officially chosen as speaker, it will be the very first time in US history that a Jewish person will have occupied the role.
Israel is known for his oratorical style which has caught the interest of several members of the House. He served as House Majority Leader under Speaker Nancy Pelosi and has been a key member of the Democratic party since his election to the post in 2013. Although he is highly respected, some have questioned his conservative leanings and his less-than-ideal relationship with the progressive wing of the party.
Israel has been remarkably successful in his role and, as such, has a great deal of support from both Democrats and Republicans to fill the open position. His nomination would give a much-needed boost to the Democratic party, as he is well-equipped to organize and walk the thin tightrope of issues concerning House Republicans and Democrats.
If selected for the role of speaker, Israel will face a number of unique and difficult challenges. He will need to utilize all of his strength, skill, and knowledge to effectively lead the House of Representatives and ensure that it works together and in the best interest of the American people. However, if elected, he will make history as the first ever Jewish Speaker of the House.
