Country superstar Darius Rucker has opened up regarding how his divorce made him feel like a failure. The singer was previously married to his wife of almost two decades, Barbara, and now has admitted that despite their split he still has deep feelings of inadequacy.
"The divorce was really tough for me," he confessed. "I felt like a complete loser. It‘s hard, because you think you‘re supposed to be this perfect person so nobody thinks anything bad of you. I felt like I let everyone down."
Despite the struggles associated with divorce, Rucker was able to move on from the experience and accept himself for who he is. The musician, who is now in another long-term relationship, revealed he made a conscious effort to accept himself and his life circumstances.
"I was able to come to terms with it, and eventually I just accepted that this is my life now," he told the outlet. "I couldn’t control what happened, no matter how much I wanted to or even tried to. So I decided to try to keep going forward the best I could.”
Rucker is currently enjoying success both commercially and critically in his music career, having scored a hit single with his U.S. tourmates Lady A. Despite the ongoing pandemic, Rucker has kept busy with his vast catalogue of hits from past albums.
